ABOVE-KNEE PROSTHETICS

An above-knee (AK) prosthesis consists of a custom-made socket combined with a supportive frame, knee unit, pylon, and foot. Sometimes a suspension sleeve or harness may also be necessary.

The most common reason for amputation are vascular complications (mainly diabetes), cancer, and trauma. Regardless of the reason for your amputation, you are not alone. While your personal experience of limb loss is unique, many others have successfully overcome the loss or absence of a limb and regained function and a positive outlook.

There will be many questions along the way as you prepare for your life as an amputee and the best course to take is to communicate with those on your rehabilitation team. Your physician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, and prosthetist are those who are here to help you become a successful wearer of a prosthetic device, but it it ultimately up to you to take charge of your care and your life as an amputee.

Types and Features

GENIUM BIONIC PROSTHETIC SYSTEM

The Genium Bionic Prosthetic System is the world’s only microprocessor controlled knee that can anticipate your movements and adapt instantaneously in order to function as close to a natural leg as possible. The Genium allows you to focus on what you are doing, not your prosthesis.

REALIZING YOUR POTENTIAL NATURALLY

Culminating decades of research and development, the Genium Prosthetic Knee combines an accelerometer and gyroscope with today’s most advanced sensing and control technologies.

Utilized for the first time with a prosthesis, Genium’s gyroscope collects data in three dimensions to identify where it is in space while the accelerometer tracks its speed. These same technologies enable Wii gaming systems to sense and react to user movements and devices such as the iPad to turn and adjust on-screen images as they’re repositioned.

Genium’s array of four sensors deliver an unprecedented quantity and quality of data to three microprocessors – the most ever utilized by a prosthetic knee – that allows them to predict what will happen next. By applying sophisticated rule sets, these microprocessors intuitively move the prosthesis in multiple directions in much the same the way a normal leg would respond. As a result, users can side-step, walk backwards, shuffle step, stop short, pivot on their prosthetic leg and perform a wide range of common movements naturally without concentrating.

Genium also adapts immediately to changes in direction, speed or pace. Its fluid motion allows the knee to get in front of the body rapidly and support it even in a bent position. And unlike other prosthetic legs, it lets amputees step over obstacles instead of walking around them.

C-LEG MICROPROCESSOR KNEES

With C-Leg® microprocessor-controlled knee you can speed up, slow down, take on hills and go down stairs step-over-step—all with a secure, more natural gait.

HOW C-LEG® MICROPROCESSOR KNEE TECHNOLOGY WORKS

The revolutionary microprocessor that controls the C-Leg Microprocessor Knee receives feedback from multiple sensors 50 times a second, allowing the knee to anticipate your next move and make adjustments in real time. This keeps your knee stable when you weight it, free-swinging when you step through—and always ready to support you if you stumble.

Stumble Recovery

Whenever the C-Leg Microprocessor Knee senses that you’re in an insecure position—such as when you trip or stumble—it will stiffen to provide the support you need to recover. When it senses that you’re secure again, it offers its normal, reliable support.

Multiple Modes for Multiple Uses

The C-Leg Microprocessor Knee offers several functional modes. The first two modes can be set for walking and other favorite activities, such as driving or riding a bike. A new “standing” mode lets you lock the leg yourself between 7 and 70 degrees, helping you use less energy no matter what you stand for.

Switching between modes is as easy as bouncing on your toe—or a press of the wireless remote control.

C-Leg Microprocessor Knee Protector

The C-Leg Microprocessor Knee Protector is a tough exterior shell that keeps your C-Leg Microprocessor Knee protected from the environment. It’s easy to put on and take off and includes an anti-slip feature to make the knee more stable when you kneel.

The C-Leg Microprocessor Knee Has You Covered

A three-year warranty is standard with the C-Leg Microprocessor Knee and includes a free service check at 24 months. We even provide a loaner microprocessor knee during the service period.

How to Be Fit With the C-Leg Microprocessor Knee

The C-Leg Microprocessor Knee must be fit by a C-Leg Microprocessor Knee qualified prosthetists. They’ve invested two full days in the classroom to master the customizing software, and will set the knee for all the ways you walk—fast and slow, indoors and out.

3R95 LIGHTWEIGHT KNEES

Small, dynamic lightweight knee joint for active users

Small, lightweight and with powerful linear hydraulics for swing phase control. Particularly well suited for highly active users. Also available as the 3R95=1 with especially adapted characteristics for prosthesis wearers with a body weight less than 75 kg (165 lbs). Here the hydraulics for swing phase control are adapted to the lower pendulum mass and length compared to the 3R95. The joint housing has a dorsal recess to allow for a larger flexion angle.

The knee is a central element of the human locomotor system. After an amputation, active patients in particular want to ensure that the prosthetic replacement is as dynamic as possible. Suitable for moderate and higher mobility grades, the joint allows powerful resistance even with a high degree of flexion. We developed the small and dynamic 3R95 lightweight knee joint in two versions to meet these requirements.

Additional Features – The flexion and extension resistance used to control the swing phase can be adjusted separately and precisely using a scale on the joint. – The design of the hydraulic linkage geometry allows powerful resistance even with a high degree of flexion. The extension resistance can be set to a low value, since hydraulic end position damping ensures a soft transition to the elastic stop. – The stance phase is secured by posterior placement of the joint and active control by the user. – Cosmetically very advantageous thanks to the compact design.

Both lightweight knee joints distinguish themselves through straightforward adjustment possibilities. Thanks to their compact design, the joints are also very well suited for cosmetic fittings for women and youths. The 3R95 with a flexion angle of 135° is approved for a body weight up to 150 kilograms; the 3R95=1 with a flexion angle up to 155° is especially designed for prosthesis wearers with a body weight up to 75 kilograms. Your orthopaedics specialist will be happy to advise you regarding the ability to combine the knee joint with dynamic prosthetic feet.

3R80 KNEES

3R80 prosthetic knee joint offers independence

As a prosthesis wearer, you want to be confident that your knee joint meets your daily requirements and supports changing walking speeds. Through continuous further development, our goal is to offer you a knee joint that makes you as independent as possible in everyday life.

The 3R80 with its unique rotation hydraulics principle is now also approved for prosthesis wearers with a body weight of up to 150 kg (330 lbs). With the 3R80, both the stance and the swing phase are controlled by the hydraulics. For example, walking down stairs step-over-step and walking down inclines are effectively supported by closely approximating a physiological gait pattern, even at various walking speeds.

At a Glance

  •     Waterproof – NEW
  •     Manual lock – NEW
  •     Available in both pyramid version and screw top version – NEW
  •     Rotary hydraulics control stance and swing phase

A Confident Step Amputees must be able to rely on their prosthesis, especially in the stance phase. The rotation hydraulics of the 3R80 respond to the ground reaction forces in the stance phase at every step. They build up high hydraulic resistance, which prevents involuntary flexion of the joint.

Extensive adjustment possibilities The 3R80 offers comprehensive adjustment possibilities for the individual adaptation of stance and swing phase characteristics. Flexion and extension resistance can be adjusted easily and independently. Optimum adjustment values for stance phase damping and response behaviour between the stance and swing phase are achieved by gradually turning the adjustment rings. The level of resistance in the stance phase can be easily adapted to the requirements of the user, and enables variable knee flexion under load up to 4° while bouncing, and more than 4° while yielding. An additional spring can be integrated very easily in order to increase the extension assist force if required. The spring, setting aid and required tube adapter are included in the scope of delivery.

3R78 KNEES

For patients who have lost a leg, regaining mobility is a top priority. However, development of more true-to-nature prosthetic limbs and joints has come an amazingly long way from the often thought of peg leg and hook hand. Over the past several years, medical prosthetic technology has advanced drastically, allowing for patients to regain the normalcy in their life that they would not have had access to in the past. The development of the 3R78 focused on a robust, dust-resistant design that is durable and resistant against environmental impacts.  This polycentric prosthetic knee joint with pneumatic swing phase control offers reliable stance phase security for users with moderate activity levels.

In the swing phase, the smooth yet powerful single chamber pneumatics (one chamber each for flexion and extension damping) does not run out of air, even at various walking speeds.  Smooth flexion and extension movements, and therefore an approximation of the physiological gait pattern, are made possible.  Here the joint geometry effectively shortens the prosthesis during swing through, resulting in more ground clearance.

Are you a prosthetic wearer with moderate activity level who needs a lightweight knee joint, offering stance phase security in addition to harmonious movements? Then our robust 3R78 knee joint, which is designed to be resistant to dust and environmental influences and also features pneumatic swing phase control, is exactly right for you. Harmonious flexion and extension movements make it possible for you to achieve a gait pattern which comes very close to walking naturally. Here the joint geometry effectively shortens the prosthesis when you swing your leg through, resulting in more ground clearance. A high flexion angle of 150 degrees leads to greater freedom of movement. The knee joint also sets itself apart with adequate support for different walking speeds and is approved for a body weight of up to 100 kilograms.

It can be individually adapted to your personal needs without extra effort. A quick reference guide makes the adjustment process quick and simple for your orthopaedic specialist.

BELOW-KNEE PROSTHETICS

A below-knee (BK) prosthesis will typically consist of a custom-made socket, a pylon and a foot. Sometimes a suspension sleeve or harness may also be necessary.

TRITON PROSTHETIC FOOT

Your life. Your adventure.

The prosthetic feet from the Triton family of products are suitable for active users. Their outstanding dynamic response and flexibility support mobility at the highest level – in everyday life and for recreational sports.

In the development of new technologies, nature is the best model: That is why the anatomy of the human foot is reflected in the characteristic, triangular curved shape of the Triton. The carbon forefoot spring together with the carbon heel spring forms the load-bearing structure. The high-performance polymer base spring in turn connects these elements to form an integrated system. As a result, the Triton features a particularly harmonious and smooth rollover. The transition to the swing phase is very powerful and you can individually vary the stride length.

Just like the Triton, the Low Profile version offers the advantages of the cohesive system made of flexible carbon fiber composite material and the base spring made of high-performance polymer. In the segment of prosthetic feet with a low clearance, it offers unique functionality. Next to an especially smooth rollover, the Triton Low Profile features high flexibility in the ML direction. This ensures safety and support for walking on uneven surfaces and during recreational sports. Due to its broad area of application and high load-bearing capacity, the Triton Low Profile is ideal
for use in combination with the C-Leg and Genium.

DYNAMIC FOOT WITH TOES

The Dynamic Foot features natural shape with smooth surface, shaped toes and sandal toe. The functional characteristic are achieved through the proven combination of a contoured core and functional foam. This results in a comfortable heel strike and a smoother rollover than with the SACH foot. The sophisticated foam technology offers improved dynamic characteristics of the forefoot.

After an amputation, patients want a prosthetic foot that offers a largely natural gait and independence in everyday life. With the 1D35 Dynamic Motion, we have developed a prosthetic foot that makes a more harmonious rollover process possible for users with a moderate mobility grade, and therefore comes very close to the natural gait. A cosmetic foam cover gives you the added good feeling that your prosthetic foot looks good. Flip-flops can be worn thanks to the space between the big and middle toes.

The Dynamic foot is suitable for prosthesis users with a transtibial or transfemoral amputation, hip disarticulation or knee disarticulation. The foot is available in the sizes from 22 to 30 centimetres and can be used for a body weight of up to 100 kilograms depending on the foot size. Your orthopaedic technician will be happy to advise you regarding your special requirements.

The 1D10 is available with or without with an assembled titanium modular adapter.
